Port Hueneme: Military base plunged into lockdown as ‘active shooter’ prompts warning | World | News

A military base was placed on lockdown Tuesday following reports of an active attacker. It was reported that on January 6, a loud alarm was heard at the Port Hueneme Naval Base in Ventura County, California, USA, after reports of a threat emerged.

The base was placed on lockdown at 9.30am local time (17.30 GMT), but officials soon said reports of the attacker were false. About 45 minutes later, the hub posted on social media that the “report was incorrect” and that the facility had reopened.

It read: “ALL CLEAR ON ACTIVE THREAT REPORT. No active attackers at NBVC Port Hueneme. Force protection has determined the report to be false. All doors are now open. LOCKDOWN SECURE.”

A completely clear message was also broadcast over the public address system to military personnel on base and people living in the immediate area.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Your News Channel, the lights of the medical building near the Silver Strand entrance of the base were turned off.

Before everything became clear on social media, news started circulating and people claimed that an alarm had been heard in the area.

“The base is on lockdown and very loud alarms are being heard by neighboring civilians in the city. Oxnard Police and the sheriff’s office do not appear to be providing any meaningful response,” one person wrote.

Other images shared on X showed police and fire crews at the scene before the problem was resolved.
