Two people unfold banner atop Empire State Building in apparent marriage proposal stunt | New York

An elaborate marriage proposal was revealed at the top of the Empire State Building’s spire on Wednesday after two people climbed to the top of the New York City landmark — above the level at which the general public is allowed to go.
The two men, both wearing black clothing and appearing to be masked, unfurled a large black banner atop the iconic skyscraper with the words: “When the power of love conquers the love of power, the world knows peace.”
It remained unclear how the duo made it to the final stages of the building, which towers 1,454 ft (443 meters) above midtown Manhattan. Local media outlets reported that a New York Police Department (NYPD) drone was in the air, as well as an NYPD helicopter near the scene monitoring the breathtaking spectacle.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the pair descended to a slightly lower platform of the structure that held the antenna at the top of the building. One person then knelt down and the two embraced and kissed, following what appeared to be a marriage proposal from a man to a woman.
The NYPD said the situation was “still evolving” and had “nothing to add” at the time.
