UK bar giant issues major update after crashing into administration | UK | News

A popular pub in Southampton city center will close this weekend, marking the end of an era after more than 15 years in the city. Revolution Southampton will serve its final customers on June 7, before undergoing a major refurbishment and relaunching under a new name later this summer.

The Bedford Place venue, which first opened in 2010 and is a firm favorite among University of Southampton and Southampton Solent University students, is among 20 former Revolution sites acquired by hospitality operator NEOS Hospitality following the collapse of parent company Revel Collective earlier this year. The closure comes after Revel Collective, which owns Revolution and Revolución de Cuba, appointed administrators due to mounting financial pressures. The group cited rising operating costs and weak consumer spending, particularly among younger customers, as factors behind its difficulties.

The administration process led to the immediate closure of 21 venues across the UK and the loss of 591 jobs; but the rescue deal secured the future of 41 facilities and more than 1,500 jobs.

An email dated June 5 and seen by the Express revealed the venue would soon be closed. Customers who booked after June 7 have been informed that the bar will not be able to accommodate bookings and will instead issue full refunds.

The message said: “We’ve loved shaking up your cocktails and creating unmissable days and nights over the last few years, but we will be closing our doors at Revolution Southampton as of 7 June 2026” and apologize for any inconvenience.

The venue is now set for a dramatic transformation as Southampton avoids the fate of many Revolution pubs that have closed permanently. NEOS Hospitality has confirmed that the site will reopen as Barbara’s Bier Haus, an Alpine-themed party bar concept that promises a completely different experience from the cocktail-focused Revolution brand.

The transformation forms part of NEOS Hospitality’s wider strategy to double its holdings to 40 venues across the country, following the acquisition of 20 sites from Revel Collective.

Bier Haus in Barbara is known for its après-ski-inspired atmosphere featuring bartenders dancing to lederhosen, shot skis, themed DJs, beer and cocktail towers, shareable dishes, and immersive entertainment designed to create a festival-style party atmosphere. The venue in Southampton will also feature a number of the brand’s signature features, including a cable car installation, interactive entertainment and the much-talked-about “disco toilet”.

Russell Quelch, CEO of NEOS Hospitality, said in a statement: “Southampton is a fantastic city with a great midnight scene and we see a real opportunity to introduce something different to the market.

“The purpose of Bier Haus at Barbara is to create unforgettable moments in a fun space, and this investment is about transforming a well-known central space into a more experience-focused, high-energy venue that reflects what guests are looking for today.”

A statement issued by The Revel Collective in January said: “Immediately following the appointment of the Administrators, the Administrators completed two sales transactions of the Group’s business and assets: (i) the sale of Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders and Co to Neos Holdco Limited and certain of its subsidiaries trading as Neos Hospitality, and (ii) the sale of Peach pubs to Coral Pub Company Acquisition Limited, founded by Ted Kennedy.

“These transactions secure the continuation of 20 Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders and Co bars and 21 Peach pubs, and protect 1,582 jobs and central support functions on the premises.

“Unfortunately, 14 Revolution, six Revolucion de Cuba and one Peach sites were not part of this transaction and these sites will be closed immediately, impacting 591 employees.”
