UK games studio plunges into administration – in business since 2018 | UK | News

A UK games studio that has been operating for nearly a decade has gone into administration. Maze Theory Games, a Manchester-based company developing immersive gaming stories in virtual reality (VR), has been operating since 2018. Its founders have decades of experience in the gaming industry, selling games inspired by popular hit shows like Doctor Who and Peaky Blinders.

The company has won numerous international awards for game design and specializes in creating gaming experiences focused on active participation through the “power of presence” in VR. The business has more than 4,000 followers on Instagram. On 8 May, Cowgills managers Craig Johns and Jason Mark Elliott were appointed. Newspaper.

This comes despite the fact that the VR industry is a fast-growing, high-end component of the immersive technology market. Ukie, the trade body for the UK’s video games and interactive entertainment industry, found that UK consumers will spend £8.76bn on video games in 2025, a 7.4% increase on the previous year.

According to the organisation, the UK’s games industry has more than doubled in the last decade and now supports more than 73,000 jobs and delivers £6bn of gross added value annually to the UK economy, with studios thriving in every country and region of the UK, from Dundee to Leamington Spa, Manchester to Guildford.

But not every gaming company thrives. Alongside Maze Theory Games, earlier this year GAME, a computer games store widely known on Britain’s high streets, went into administration and closed its last three independent high street stores in Dudley, Sutton and Lancaster.
