UK packaging company collapses into administration – 33 jobs saved | UK | News

A notice was issued on 15 July stating that Derwent Packaging Limited had entered administration and that Benjamin Fallon and Louise Longley, both of BTG, Begbies Traynor, were appointed as administrators on 8 July.

This comes at a time of financial crisis for UK businesses, with companies facing rising labor costs, higher energy bills and lower customer spending.

The latest disclosure at Companies House shows that the company’s tangible assets fell from £330,410 to £270,657 between 2024 and 2025. Cash flow problems forced the company to cease trading.

However, the company’s joint administrators completed a rapid sale process within a day of their appointment and Derwent Packaging Limited has now been acquired by Mailway Displays, saving all the jobs and allowing it to continue operating.

Founded in Derbyshire in 1994, Derwent Packaging Limited creates “innovative” cardboard displays and retail display solutions for major brands across the UK and Europe.

The business continues to operate from the Denby, Derbyshire manufacturing site where it has operated for more than three decades, with all 33 jobs being saved in the sale.

BTG Joint Director Ben Fallon described the outcome as one that protects jobs, delivers value for creditors and secures the future of an established manufacturer with an excellent reputation in the retail display and packaging industry, according to the Management List.

Mailway Display’s acquisition of Derwent Displays provides a strong fit as the Denby business now gains additional manufacturing capacity, an experienced workforce, an established customer base, complimentary manufacturing capabilities and the ability to continue serving customers from its existing facility.
