UK restaurant closes after 9 years – ‘extortionate rise in costs’ | UK | News

A UK restaurant boasting a 4.7-star rating on Google is closing after nine years in business. The Nest in East London is described as an “outstanding” restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. But despite its success, financial difficulties caused the hotspot to close.
In a statement on social media, the team welcomed its customers with “warm and heavy hearts” and announced that it would provide its last service on March 28. They also thanked employees, customers, friends and suppliers for their journey.
It reads: “After 9 incredible years, we are sharing the news that Nest will be closing its doors with our final service on March 28th.
“What a journey it’s been. From humble beginnings launching pop-ups across the country, to our first cluttered shoebox in Morning Lane in Homerton (which we absolutely loved and gave us a platform to grow), to our current home in Shoreditch and beyond – despite the challenges, we feel incredibly lucky this time around.”
“When we first opened, our tasting menu was just £28! Since then, the relentless and extreme rise in costs has made it inevitable to increase prices in order to continue. We truly believe that our current menu still represents incredible value, but despite best efforts we can no longer keep the numbers balanced.”
The team also thanked the community for their support “during arguably one of the most challenging periods our industry has ever faced.”
With the news of the closure, customers were demoralized. The Instagram announcement attracted more than 100 comments, with people sharing their disappointment by “sending love”.
One person wrote: “I’m so sorry for this news, the struggle is real and it’s getting harder for operators due to food and rent costs.”
“Huge congratulations to you and your team for the past 9 years. This is a huge achievement and deserves great respect.
“The motivation and resilience of hospitality operators is huge.”
Another commented: “Really sorry to hear this! The Nest has been my favorite restaurant in London since it opened. The food is always delicious, the service impeccable and full of warmth. I’ll definitely be back before the doors close. Thank you for being wonderful.”
