UK snow LIVE: School closures and travel chaos as Britain braces for rare amber warning | Weather | News

Heavy snowfall and icy conditions in Britain have caused travel chaos. On Wednesday afternoon, motorists in North Yorkshire were forced to abandon their vehicles as weather conditions worsened. North Yorkshire Police said many cars were “stuck” on the road due to weather conditions and urged people to stay away from the A171 near Whitby. They added that the A169 was also closed due to heavy snowfall.

In addition, due to snowfall, there was a power outage in many villages in the region, leaving households without electricity. The icy conditions in Yorkshire follow cold weather across the country, which led to dozens of schools in Scotland closing for the day. Wintry conditions are expected to continue on Thursday, with multiple ice and snow yellow warnings in effect throughout the morning. A rare yellow alert has also been issued for Yorkshire and parts of the North East.
