UK weather: Driest regions miss chance for rain ahead of next heatwave
Some of the UK’s driest parts have missed the chance for rain ahead of a new heatwave starting this week.
Parts of the north and west of England saw some rainfall over the weekend; More showers and unstable conditions are expected over the next few days.
However, it is stated that temperatures will rise once again in the southern parts of the country, which receive the least rainfall, and drier and sunny weather will be expected.
This comes as parts of Wales have officially entered drought status, while parts of southern, central and eastern England remain in “prolonged dry weather”, the final stage before a drought is declared.
The coming days will make dry conditions worse as another heatwave is expected to be declared across south-east England, with temperatures peaking at around 35C (95F).
Heat health warnings have been issued by the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) ahead of the high temperatures.
The south-west, south-east, London, the East of England, the West and East Midlands and Yorkshire and The Humber are under alert from 9am on Tuesday 28 July until 9am on Friday 31 July.
The UKHSA warns that the heat is expected to cause minor impacts on health and social care services, with an increased risk to the lives of vulnerable people.
