Britain is bracing for a freeze this week as temperatures plummet below zero in the wake of Storm Benjamin. According to weather maps, as temperatures drop, icing may occur, heavy rain and possible flooding may occur..

The North of England will wake up to the coldest conditions on Sunday 26 November, with forecast lows of -1C between North Yorkshire and Cumbria. The majority of the UK will feel cold, with temperatures across the country dropping below 4 degrees by 9am. According to weather maps from WXCharts, southern temperatures will be between 2-3 degrees and the north of England will range from below zero to 1 degree.

The coldest weather in inland areas is predicted to be icy between Northumberland and Cumbria.

The Met Office predicts that next weekend will be wet. Weather maps show up to 8mm of rain per hour will fall from the west on Sunday morning, with rainfall moving eastwards across the country.

The outlook for Saturday to Monday was predicted as follows: “Winters over the Scottish Highlands will feel colder on Saturday with more scattered showers. Longer rains at times on Sunday and Monday and winds becoming stronger once again.”

Wind, rain and flood warnings have been issued this week as Storm Benjamin hits parts of the UK. This could extend into the weekend, with the Environment Agency warning that “localized coastal flooding is possible in parts of eastern England on Saturday”.

It adds that land, roads and some properties may be flooded and travel will be disrupted.
