According to the charts, temperatures could drop from the 20-degree high the country currently enjoys to chilly lows of 6 degrees at 6 a.m.; this is 12 degrees lower than the July average. The coldest parts of the country will be in Scotland, but temperatures will also be below 10C in Cumbria and Durham. Elsewhere, temperatures will reach lows above 10°C across much of England, with highs reaching 16°C in the South West.
It reads: “Staying dry and settling in by the end of the week. Sunny weather will continue although cloud amounts will generally increase.
“Temperatures are slowly falling towards the seasonal average, but the sunshine still feels nice.”
Separately, the Met Office has given its verdict on the chances of rain in England next day.
The statement said: “High pressure is expected to continue near the UK for the next few days, meaning dry weather will continue in most areas.
“The most likely chance of rain will be in the far south or southwest, where a few isolated showers are possible. However, these are expected to be scattered and short-lived, with many places remaining dry.”
