Sweltering sunshine could scorch much of the country later this month, while parts of the UK are set to enjoy 28C. According to WXCharts, highs (between 26C and 28C) were felt in Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Essex, Kent, Suffolk, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and East and West Sussex.

The warm weather is expected to arrive on Saturday, May 23, and could mean millions of Brits will get the chance to have a barbecue or head to the beach park at the weekend. This year, May started with below-average temperatures due to the cold air coming from the north.

But warmer conditions look set to fall perfectly over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend; The mercury will remain stable in the mid-20s across much of southern England until Monday 25 May.
