Britons are bracing for a scorching heatwave this week that could see temperatures soar as high as 40°C, but weather forecasts suggest much colder weather will return. New maps from WXCHARTS reveal temperatures will drop in less than two weeks on July 4th.

According to the latest weather maps from WXCharts, most of the country could climb into the high teens by around 6am, with lows of just 4C in the Scottish Highlands and single-digit temperature lows across almost the rest of the country. The coldest areas in England are expected to be the North West and North East, where the mercury will hover around 9 degrees Celsius. Further south, temperature lows may only progress to low to moderate levels; It will be a low of 14°C in East Anglia and a low of 13°C in the South West and North Wales. Additionally, temperatures could drop to 12C in London and the south coast at 6am on July 4th.

The Met Office’s forecast for 17 June to 6 July warns of “variable conditions” at the start of next month as “Atlantic lows arrive from the west”, but this comes with “temporary periods of high pressure” that will lead to periods of rain.

The forecast says: “Conditions will be quite variable with initial periods of rain and showers and there may be occasional outbreaks of thunder, but there will also likely be drier and brighter periods.

“By July, variable conditions will likely continue with temporary periods of high pressure as the Atlantic low approaches from the west. This will result in rain and clouds interspersed with more stable periods.

“Temperatures remain well above average, and the far southeast may retain some of the warm temperatures at first, but is likely to be cooler than the previous few days.”
