UK weather: Temperatures of 30C possible in bank holiday weekend heatwave

A heatwave in the UK is defined by the Met Office as at least three consecutive days in which daily maximum temperatures exceed the county-specific threshold, reflecting a sustained spell of unusually hot weather.
Heatwave threshold temperatures vary across the UK. In Greater London the temperature is 28C, in Northern Ireland and Scotland it is 25C.
A few places are likely to meet the definition of a heat wave on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is currently likely to be the case in areas such as London and the south of the Midlands.
Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to continue on Tuesday and beyond, while more parts of England and Wales could experience a heatwave after the bank holiday weekend.
