9 tulas gold stolen from 80-year-old woman in apartment in Lalaguda

Hyderabad: Two unidentified persons stole a gold chain weighing nine tulas from an 80-year-old resident of Hari Hanth Sadan’s apartment in Lalaguda on Wednesday morning.

The woman named Bala Rukmini was left alone at home after her son Naresh went to work. At around 09.30, two people wearing hats entered apartment number 301, threatened the old woman and stole her gold chain.

The incident came to light when his son Naresh, who returned home, informed the police. The police arrived at the scene and received detailed information from the woman who was in shock. Detective Inspector N Ramakrishna said his wife went to buy vegetables while the apartment security guard went to the first floor to attend to some work at the flat owner’s house.

After confirming that there was no one at the main door, the two suspects entered flat 301 and committed the crime. Security cameras installed in the flat recorded images of the suspects. “We couldn’t positively identify them because they were wearing hats,” he said.

The two were seen talking on the phone outside the door before committing the crime. They might have reached the resort in their auto-rickshaw. Police said that the fact that the defendant immediately went to apartment 301 showed that he was knowledgeable about the apartment.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation in the area, including bus terminals and Secunderabad railway station, to catch the suspect.
