Trump has been pushing for a deal to end the nearly four-year war, and peace efforts led by Witkoff and Kushner have begun to inch forward in recent weeks.
Earlier this week, Zelenskyy presented 20-item peace plan draft he described it as the main framework for ending the war.
The draft represented a narrowed-down version of the original 28-point plan that the United States had previously discussed with the Russian side, which was seen as mostly benefiting Moscow as it demanded that Kiev give up territory and impose restrictions on its military.
However, basic regional problems are still unresolved in the new 20-article draft. Zelenskyy he said, adding that a meeting with Trump would be necessary to resolve the most sensitive issues.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Moscow was examining documents related to the end of the war brought to Moscow by Russia’s special envoy to the United States, Kirill Dmitriev.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Zelenskyy Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov plans to meet with US negotiators once again later in the day, he said.
