Representatives from Ukraine and the United States will reportedly meet before high-stakes trilateral talks in Geneva, where Russian envoys will also attend. The report on the meeting came just after the Russia-Ukraine war entered its fifth year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy briefed reporters on the US-Ukraine meeting on Thursday, Associated Press reported. According to the AP, the Ukrainian leader reportedly said that Thursday’s meeting will discuss the possibility of Ukraine’s post-war recovery, as well as preparations for the trilateral meeting with Russia.

According to the AP, citing Zelenskyy, the meeting is expected to be attended by Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Additionally, Umerov’s press secretary Diana Davytian told the AP that the meeting would take place in Geneva. The outlet noted that the Swiss city is expected to be the venue for US-Iran nuclear talks to be held on the same day as the trilateral talks.

According to the AP report, Zelenskyy said that he assigned Umerov to discuss a possible prisoner exchange. He added that Ukraine wants talks with Russia to be held next week.

The Trump administration’s push to end years of war has brought Russian and Ukrainian envoys to the table in both Abu Dhabi and Geneva, but the meetings have yet to produce progress for peace.

On Tuesday, the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Zelenskyy stood firm, saying Putin had not defeated Ukraine or broken the country’s spirit. This statement came as Ukrainian forces made their biggest gains since 2024, AP reported, citing the Institute for the Study of War. The institute noted that Ukrainian forces pushed back the Russian army along the front line in the eastern regions of the country.

The State Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
