Former US pilot accused of trying to cut engines reaches plea agreement | US news

An old Alaska Airlines pilot, accused of trying to cut the motors of a passenger flight while riding out of duty in the cockpit, should be watched on Friday as a part of the agreements made with prosecutors.
His lawyer Noah Horst, Joseph Emerson reached defense agreements because he hoped to take responsibility for his actions and to avoid more time behind the railings.
On October 22, 2023, Emerson was suppressed by the flight team after trying to cut the engines of a horizon air flight from Washington to San Francisco. The aircraft was directed to Portland, where he landed safely with more than 80 people.
Emerson told the police that he was desperate from a friend’s last death, that he bought a psychedelic mushroom about two days ago and did not sleep for more than 40 hours. He said he believed that he was dreaming at that time and tried to awaken himself by capturing two red handles that would activate the fire extinguishing system and cut off his engines.
Emerson from California, Pleasant Hill was accused of interfering with a flight team in the Federal Court. A state indictment in Oregon accused another person of 83 censuses for endangering another person and endancing a plane.
He had previously argued that he was not guilty of all the charges, and in December 2023, he was released from the trial that he had entered into mental health services, stayed away from drugs and alcohol and stayed away from planes.
On Friday, Emerson was expected to be guilty of the federal number and not to object to the state charges with the same legal impact as a guilty objection.
In accordance with the federal agreement, prosecutors propose that Emerson be sentenced to a year of imprisonment, while his lawyers will not give additional time. Horst, the conditions of the state agreement, five -year -old probation, 664 hours of community service – eight hours – for each person he consumes – and almost all of the Alaska Air Group include $ 60,569 on the return.
Half of the community service can be performed at Emerson, which is established after the arrest of the pilot Health. In addition, it should make assessments for drug and alcohol and mental health treatment, avoid any prescribed medication and keep at least 25 ft (7.6 meters) away from operating aircraft unless it obtains permission from the supervisory officer.
Prevented disaster, cockpit safety and the mental adulthood of those who are allowed to them.
