UN Security Council to meet on Poland drone incursions

The UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting to discuss drone attacks on Poland’s airspace, which describes Russia as an attempt to test Warsaw and NATO’s response.

Poland also banned drone flights along the Eastern borders of Belarus and Ukraine and said that there were Russian drones that violated the airspace on Wednesday and limited small air traffic there.

Poland was supported by NATO allies to hit the drones – a member of the military alliance is known to have fired for the first time during Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Russia said it did not aim to achieve any target in Poland and will not comment more about the incident.

A senior NATO commander said it is not yet known whether the drone attack was deliberate.

However, the incident revealed questions about NATO’s preparation against drone attacks, fueled Russia with tensions, and pushed some Western leaders to seek new sanctions against Moscow and question their commitment to peace efforts in Ukraine.

“This Russian provocation was nothing more than our ability to test our abilities (in Poland) because they are aware of our generals and soldiers,” because they are aware of our generals and soldiers, “Polish President Karol Nawrocki said on Thursday. He said.

He continued: “Answer, test the mechanism of action in the North Atlantic Alliance, was an attempt and provocation that we were ready to respond to.”

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the United Nations Security Council would meet in Warsaw’s request, but when he didn’t say it.

Diplomats said on Wednesday that the UN did not comment immediately, but asked the security council of Slovenia, Denmark, Greece, France and the UK on Friday.

Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said, “We are attracting the world’s attention to the UN, EU and NATO members of the Russian drone attack.” He said.

Polish F-16 fighter aircraft, the Netherlands F-35S, Italian Awacs surveillance aircraft and NATO ventilation aircraft, Tuesday-Çarşamba on a night in the Polish airspace in the operation of the drones, he said.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that he was the closest to the clash closest to the conflict since World War II, but he said, but there is no reason to believe that we are on the verge of war. “

TUSK called the event as a “large -scale provocation” and said that alliance members have activated Article 4 of the NATO Treaty, which can request consultations with their allies.

US President Donald Trump spoke to Nawrocki on Wednesday and refers to the Union of Leaders.

European leaders who are trying to persuade Trump to tighten Russia and increase the sanctions on Russia and to increase their giving to Kiev, said the incident justified a collective response.

Neither Poland nor NATO have yet to fully explain what the drones were doing.

Air traffic restrictions imposed by Poland throughout the borders with Ukraine and Belarus are in force and implemented until December 9, and contains forbidden to civilian unmanned planes such as limited small air traffic and drones.

After visiting a military base, Nawrocki united the Polish National Security Council, which advised him on security threats.

“We will do everything to ensure that allied commitments are fulfilled by our allies,” TUSK said in a statement to Air Force pilots. He said.

“Thus, a country and you, as Polish pilots, we are never alone in times of peace or war.”
