A man repeatedly hit a woman with a baseball bat while raping her. Simon Tang was found guilty of rape at Birmingham Crown Court.

The victim was a sex worker who was attacked near a car park on Birmingham Street on May 5. Recalling the ordeal she was subjected to, she bravely reported the crime to West Midlands Police.

He told police that Tang took the bat from the trunk of his car and hit him repeatedly, resulting in extensive bruises on his legs and head.

He was supported during his recovery and investigation by specially trained teams from West Midlands Police.

Tang, 56, of Weoley Castle Road, Birmingham, was found guilty of two counts of rape, possession of an offensive weapon and causing actual bodily harm.

He will be sentenced on January 30.

DS Morgan Colley, from the investigation team, said: “I would like to commend the woman’s bravery in this case as without her support we would not have been able to achieve a positive outcome in court.

“This man posed a real danger to women and thanks to him he has now been convicted of his crimes and arrested ahead of his sentencing.”
