Trump set to kick off America 250 celebration after artists pull out

President Donald Trump on Saturday floated the idea of ​​hosting a massive MAGA rally to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary after numerous artists pulled out of planned concerts this summer.

In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump suggested canceling the Great American State Fair’s Freedom 250 concerts. He also took aim at the federal judge who ruled Friday to remove his name from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

“Instead of overpriced singers whose music no one wants to hear, whose music is boring but who do nothing but complain, we should have a giant 250-person MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY,” Trump wrote.

“Cancel, just as I canceled my involvement with the failure and unsafety of being at the Kennedy Center, because a Highly Conflicted, Dishonest Federal Judge said I should not be allowed to spend my time and money to MAKE THE CENTER BIG AGAIN, in fact, much bigger than it was before!” he continued.

The comments came as many artists backed out of performing at the Great American State Fair, a large-scale national celebration on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., that stretches from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument.

The event is scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 10, 2026, as part of the country’s America 250 celebration.

Earlier this week, Freedom 250 organizers released a list of artists scheduled to appear at the event, but many artists later withdrew, including Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day and The Time and C+C Music Factory.

Other artists, including rapper Vanilla Ice, said they were “honored” to participate.

In a separate social media post on Saturday, Trump suggested he might replace the concert with a big speech after several artists took the “rope”.

“I understand that the artists were getting ‘ips’ for their performance on Wednesday, so I intend to bring DONALD J. TRUMP, the man who has a much larger audience than Elvis in his prime and did it without a guitar, who loves our Country more than anyone else and who some call THE Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), somewhere in the World, to replace these well-paid, Third Class ‘Artists.’ I’m going to make a speech!” Trump wrote.

Trump said he was considering giving the speech and holding a rally on June 24 to kick off the celebrations.

“I don’t want so-called ‘Artists’ who get paid too much and aren’t happy,” he wrote. “I just want to surround myself with Happy People, Smart People, Successful People, and people who KNOW HOW TO WIN.”

Freedom 250 later announced that Trump would in fact be giving a speech ahead of the Great American State Fair.

“As the visionary behind the Great American State Fair, we are excited to announce that President Trump will personally kick off this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 24, with an opening ceremony celebrating America’s 250th birthday,” Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez wrote to X.
