‘Unimaginable’: Heartbreak as two girls, 13 and 2, die after in Townsville house fire

Two young girls rescued from a house fire in Townsville died in hospital.
The fire destroyed a house in Gum Court, Bushland Beach, about 5.40am on Sunday.
Two boys, aged 15 and 17, managed to escape the flames, but two young girls were trapped inside due to serious breathing problems and had to be rescued by firefighters.

Sisters Evie, 13, and Hallie, two, were taken to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.
Police confirmed that both girls died in hospital on Thursday.
In the police statement, it was said: “Investigations into the fire continue; it continues to be considered as suspicious.”

A GoFundMe was started by a family friend to support the children’s mother, Karah, who works as a nurse.
“Within minutes, the fire destroyed her home and displaced her entire family,” the fundraiser read.
“While Karah has spent her career caring for others, she now faces the unimaginable: fighting for her children’s lives while losing the place they once called home.”
In a statement, the family said they had faced “immense challenges at one time.”
“We want to sincerely thank the community, hospital staff, emergency services and everyone else who has reached out with messages of support during this difficult time,” they said.
