Afghan man charged with sexual assaults and entering Britain illegally | UK | News

An Afghan man has been accused of sexually assaulting three women and entering the UK illegally. In one of the alleged incidents, 30-year-old Sohail Amiri was seen approaching a woman on the street and trying to kiss her.
The first reported sexual assault took place on Upper Shaftesbury Avenue in Southampton on Tuesday, November 25. Amiri, of Highfield Lane, Southampton, is accused of committing two further sexual assaults on other women in Westwood Road, Southampton, on Tuesday, September 23. The 30-year-old is also charged with entering the UK without permission contrary to Section 24 of the Immigration Act 1971.
A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: “Officers investigating three reports of sexual assault on women in Portswood and Bevois have charged a man.
“The charges follow an incident on Upper Shaftesbury Avenue in the early hours of Tuesday.
“A woman walking on the road just after midnight was allegedly approached by a man she did not know and then tried to kiss her, but she managed to force him and escape.”
His superior was remanded in custody at Southampton Magistrates’ Court. He will next appear at Southampton Crown Court on Monday, January 5.
Highfield House Hotel, on Highfield Lane, Portswood, has been the subject of repeated anti-immigration protests. In September, it was reported that a flare was fired into the building’s open ground floor window and police launched an investigation.
