United States Grand Prix 2025 declared ‘heat hazard’ race

Cooling vests are optional for this season, and some drivers, such as four-time world champion Max Verstappen, dislike them because they find them uncomfortable and imperfect.

Mercedes driver George Russell wore the vest when he won the Singapore Grand Prix in hot and humid conditions on October 5.

If the driver chooses not to wear the vest, his car must carry 500 grams of ballast to compensate for the weight of the system, so he does not gain a competitive advantage.

The system, which teams can create their own individual designs, typically involves pumping a liquid such as glycol from a dry ice tank to the driver’s fireproof roof.

Problems with the system include running out of dry ice. This causes vehicle temperature fluid that is warmer than ambient temperature to be pumped into the system.
