Unlucky royal set to take on Duke of York title after Andrew scandal | Royal | News

The Duchy of York is traditionally given to the monarch’s second son. Therefore, if Prince William ascends to the throne and the title is vacant, then Prince Louis could be granted the title when he comes of age or chooses to marry.
The late Queen’s grandfather, King George V, and father, King George VI, were former Dukes of York. As a result, she was known as Princess Elizabeth of York until her father became King in 1936.
As a result, the late Queen had many emotional connections to this title.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Friday evening, Andrew spoke about his decision not to use his titles publicly.
He said: “In discussions with the King and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded that the ongoing allegations against me have distracted the work of Her Majesty and the Royal Family. As I have always done, I have decided to put my duty to my family and my country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stay away from public life.”
He continued: “We think that with His Majesty’s approval I must now go one step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors bestowed upon me. As I have said before, I strongly deny the accusations against me.”
