Roads are a familiar sight in Amaravati, covered in dust, glistening under the unrelenting heat and with construction activities all around. But for workers involved in welding and paving, this is nothing more than another day of hard labor for a day’s wage.
At 11.30am on an April morning, the temperature reached 39°C. The roads were full of infrastructure materials (trucks, cables and huge pipes), and the lack of even the slightest breeze turned the place into a furnace. Amid these intense working conditions, workers continued to work: Some wore yellow jackets, boots, and helmets, while others simply used a towel to cover their heads for protection.
