UoH Scholars Win Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar
Hyderabad: Three academics and graduates from the Department of Dance, University of Hyderabad, have been selected for Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2024-25, one of the country’s national awards for young practitioners and researchers in the field of performing arts.
The awardees are Ajay Srinivas Chakravarthy, a Master of Performing Arts graduate and current research fellow; Satwika Penna, a classical dancer and research assistant in the department; and performance artist Akash Mallick, from the department’s 2013 graduating class. The award, given by Sangeet Natak Akademi, is given to young artists, artists and researchers for their contribution to performing arts.
This achievement is noteworthy as all three awardees are associated with the Department of Dance within the University of Hyderabad’s Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, bringing national recognition to the department in a single award cycle.
UoH said the awards reflect the department’s emphasis on both performance and academic research in dance. Vice Rector and dance department faculty member Prof. congratulated the award winners. J. Anuradha said that the award reflects the dedication, artistic work and academic contributions of the awardees.
The university noted that the three recipients of this award placed them among the country’s well-known young talents in the performing arts and contributed to the institution’s presence in the fields of dance research and performance. Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar is recognized as one of India’s leading national recognitions for emerging artists and researchers in various performing art disciplines.
Two people died, three were injured in accident in Jangaon

Nalgonda: Two people died and three others were injured in a road accident at Nawabpet in Lingalaghanpur mandal of Jangaon district on Friday. In the collision, Muhammed Subhan (30) and Muhammed Imran (31) lost their lives, while Majid, Noor and Sameer were injured.
The accident occurred around 12.30 pm when a car and a truck coming from opposite directions collided head-on on a bend near Nawabpet. The victims, who lived in different parts of the erstwhile Warangal district, were returning to Hanmakonda after attending a family function at Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district.
According to the police, Subhan, who was driving the vehicle, died at the scene, while Imran died while being taken to the hospital by ambulance. The three injured people were taken to Jangaon District Government Hospital for treatment. Lingalaghanpur police registered a case and launched an investigation.
