PM Modi congratulates new Seychelles President Herminie

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, October 12, 2025, congratulated Patrick Herminie on being elected President of Seychelles and expressed confidence that time-tested ties with India will gain further momentum during his tenure.
“My warmest congratulations to Dr. Patrick Herminie on his victory in the Presidential Elections in Seychelles,” Mr. Modi said in a post on X.
“The waters of the Indian Ocean are our common heritage and nourish the aspirations and needs of our people. I am confident that our time-tested and multifaceted relations will deepen and gain further momentum during his tenure as President,” he said.
“I wish him all the best for his upcoming tenure,” Mr. Modi said.
Opposition leader Mr Herminie won the Seychelles presidential election, defeating incumbent leader Wavel Ramkalawan in the second round of voting on Saturday, October 11.
Mr Herminie represents the United Seychelles party, which governed the country for four decades before losing power to Ramkalawan’s Linyon Democratic Seselwa party in 2020.
