Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping could take advantage of Donald Trump’s alleged physical and cognitive decline, an expert has warned.
The US President has faced increased scrutiny over his physical condition after an MRI scan, which the White House later announced returned normal results. But the bruise on his right hand and the many occasions when Trump fell asleep in meetings led to further speculation.
To talk I give paperRussia and China could take advantage of Trump’s perceived decline, an expert has warned.
Mark Shanahan, associate professor of Political Affairs at the University of Surrey, said: “Trump’s reputation among world leaders is already ‘be careful’.
“Liked [Vladimir] Putin and Xi [Jinping] they will see any decline as an opportunity to push their interests, something they are already successful at in 2025; Traditional friends and partners will increasingly see Trump as an unreliable ally.
“The public turned against Joe Biden very quickly when his downfall became clear. If Trump’s age is indeed rapidly catching up with him, the American public beyond the MAGA core will not hesitate to publicly voice their displeasure.”
Trump once again sought to dispel speculation about his health on Saturday.
He said he “passed” on various cognitive tests and was in “excellent health.”
Trump added: “I did something no other president has ever done. I took cognitive tests because I know it, and by the way, it’s not easy.”
