US aircraft carrier hit by mysterious fire as Iran chaos escalates | US | News

Three sailors were injured after a fire broke out while the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) was undergoing maintenance at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth.

A Navy spokesperson confirmed to USNI News that there was a small fire on the ship. The sailors were treated by the ship’s medical team and later returned to full duty, the spokesman said.

“On April 14, a small fire occurred aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which was immediately brought under control and extinguished by trained Norfolk Naval Shipyard personnel and ship forces who responded quickly.

“The three Sailors were treated by the ship’s medical teams and returned to full duty,” a Navy spokesperson told USNI News.

The aircraft carrier was docked at the Navy’s publicly accessible Virginia-based shipyard for 16 months.

This comes after two sailors were injured in a fire aboard the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford, which was deployed in the Iran war. The US military confirmed that the ship suffered a non-combat-related fire in the ship’s main laundry.

Ford is the newest aircraft carrier in the US fleet and the largest in the world. It has a crew of more than 5,000 sailors and is capable of carrying more than 75 military aircraft.

The ship, which had previously been deployed to the Caribbean Sea to support operations in Venezuela, has been deployed for more than nine consecutive months.

According to the US military, the injured sailors were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition.

“There is no damage to the ship’s propulsion facility and the aircraft carrier remains fully operational,” the military said.
