Tourist, 25, mauled to death by a shark as her dive instructor boyfriend bravely tried to save her life is identified – as tragic details emerge

It was determined that the young woman who was mauled to death by a shark in uncontrolled waters was an extremely healthy academician who had just completed her education.

Livia Mühlheim, 25, and her boyfriend Lukas Schindler, 26, were mauled by a bull shark while swimming in the early morning hours of Thursday in the uncontrolled waters of Kylies Beach in Crowdy Bay, south of Port Macquarie, Australia.

Following the news that a young Swiss couple was attacked, emergency services were called to the beach, which is known to be dense with sharks, at around 6.30 in the morning.

Exchange student Mr Schindler, who had recently qualified as a diving instructor, tried desperately to fight off the three-metre shark that was attacking his girlfriend.

The 25-year-old was filming a pod of dolphins using a GoPro before the shark bit him several times and ripped off his left arm.

Mr. Schindler managed to scare her away, but not before the animal injured Ms. Mühlheim and bit her twice on the leg.

These injuries did not stop him from carrying the 50 meters to shore; People around here immediately jumped and tried to save their lives.

Despite all efforts, Ms. Mühlheim died from her injuries before paramedics arrived.

The couple were both athletic and had backgrounds in various types of fitness.

Mr Schindler recently completed the Sydney Marathon in 2 hours 59 minutes in August.

That same month, he received his Open Water Scuba Instructor certification from the California-based Association of Professional Diving Instructors.

HE He completed his dive instructor course at Bondi dive center last week and will graduate with a Master’s degree from the University of Technology Sydney in the second term of 2025.

Mr. Schindler also worked as a gymnastics coach from 2016 to 2018. First lieutenant in the Swiss Armed Forces in 2019.

HE In 2024, she completed her Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of St Gallen, where Ms. Mühlheim also studied.

According to her employer, Ms. Mühlheim was a former synchronized swimmer and avid runner.

He studied his master’s degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of St.Gallen in Switzerland and was hired by a financial consulting firm in 2024.

After the shark attack on Thursday, Mr Schindler laid his girlfriend down on the sand and tried to find the nearest phone to save her.

Authorities later said the woman used her swimmers to slow the bleeding, which ultimately saved her life.

Tragically, Ms. Mühlheim could not be saved, as could her boyfriend. stabilized by emergency services before flying by helicopter to John Hunter Hospital.

Mr Schindler earned his scuba certification by running the Sydney marathon in 2025, and before that he was a gymnast in 2018.

Kevin, a bystander at the scene, said he went down to see what was happening after two ambulances and a land cruiser sped past the campsite.

‘I went down to the beach to see what was happening and saw paramedics treating one person on the beach and a second person some distance away,’ he said. He told the Mid North Coast News.

Another person at the scene, Robert, said he was enjoying his usual morning walk when he saw the same scenes.

Robert told the publication: “One person was on the ground, another was bent over and there was another man walking around.”

Since this latest attack there has been a new call from the public for more ‘Shark Bite Kits’ to be installed on coastlines across the country.

These kits are designed to help control life-threatening bleeding and each include a tourniquet, two appropriate bandages, two bulk dressings, an emergency thermal blanket, gloves, a whistle, and step-by-step instructions on how to treat a shark bite.

As of writing, only 150 have been installed in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

Mrs. Mühlheim’s death is coming Less than three months after a different shark fatally attacked Mercury Psillakis, 300 kilometers south of Dee Why In September.
