Live webcam images Viewed from the top of the Washington Monument on Thursday afternoon, a highly visible “8” is visible along with the less visible “6”, “4” and “7” signs.
While “86” is often used in the restaurant industry to refer to giving up or getting rid of something, Donald Trump is the 47th president of the United States.
“At approximately 11:30 a.m., US Park police responded to a report of vandalism on the west lawn of the Washington Monument,” US Park police said. “The numbers ‘8647’ were marked on the grass.
“The cause of the color change has not yet been determined. Grass samples were collected for testing. The investigation continues.”
A spokesperson for the US Department of Internal Affairs described the incident as “deranged vandalism” and said: “Any threat to the President is taken very seriously by the department, and our US Parks police will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable.”
It remains unclear when and how the numbers were carved into the ground.
In April, former FBI director James Comey was indicted for a photo he posted on Instagram last year showing the same number of seashells on a beach.
The Justice Department charged Comey, who is leading an investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia, with two crimes, including making a threat against the president and transmitting that threat across state lines via social media.
After his post, Comey removed the photo and said: expression On Instagram: “I didn’t realize some were associating these numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I am against all forms of violence so I removed the post.”
Comey maintained his innocence and vowed to fight the charges.
The latest incident comes just weeks before the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, with a series of events planned on the National Mall as part of the “Great American State Fair.”
This also follows extensive renovations to the area overseen by Trump himself. Upgrades included: $13.1 million renovation It transforms the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool from a “grey stone” appearance to an “American flag blue.”
