US Authorizes Limited Access to Anthropic’s Mythos AI Model
SAN FRANCISCO: Anthropic announced on Friday that it had received authorization from the US government to allow a small group of US cybersecurity firms access to its powerful AI model Mythos 5.
Access to Mythos 5 was blocked by US authorities due to national security concerns.
Anthropic, which has had a tumultuous relationship with the Trump administration for months, will continue discussions with the government to “expand access to Mythos 5 and bring Fable 5 back to the public,” a company spokesperson said.
On June 12, the US government forced Anthropic to abruptly cut off access to two cutting-edge AI models after discovering vulnerabilities in security measures implemented to prevent misuse of the tool.
The strong action against Anthropic led to accusations that the government was overly involved.
In an earlier clash with the White House, Anthropic angered Trump’s team by refusing to allow its technology to be used for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons, prompting the Pentagon to cancel its contracts with the company.
Earlier on Friday, Anthropic’s main rival, OpenAI, released its new model, GPT-5.6, which has limited access and has been validated by the government on a customer basis.
