US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said on Sunday that he had a productive meeting with Chinese Minister of National Defense Admiral Dong Jun in Malaysia and that the two sides agreed to strengthen communication and maintain stability in bilateral relations.

Hegseth said he and the Admiral agreed that “peace, stability and good relations” were vital, adding that Trump’s historic “G2 meeting” set the tone for lasting US-China peace and success.

“The Admiral and I agree that peace, stability, and good relations are the best path for our two great and powerful countries. As President Trump called it, his historic ‘G2 meeting’ set the tone for everlasting peace and success for the United States and China.”

Hegseth also stated that the War Department would continue to support “peace” and both sides agreed to establish military-to-military channels.

“The Ministry of War will do the same; peace through strength, mutual respect, and positive relations. Admiral Dong and I also agreed that we must establish military-to-military channels to eliminate conflict and alleviate emerging problems. We will have more meetings on this soon. The statement came after US President Donald Trump said his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday was a “great meeting” and would bring lasting peace and success to both countries.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “My G2 meeting with Chinese President Xi was a great meeting for both countries. This meeting will lead to eternal peace and success. God bless both China and the USA!”

The US President met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Busan, South Korea, on October 30.

“We have a deal,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, referring to the trade agreement that will routinely be extended.

“We will renegotiate the agreement every year, but I think the agreement will continue for a long time, well beyond the year. We will renegotiate at the end of the year,” he added.

Speaking to reporters later, Trump announced that China had committed to immediately purchasing “large and tremendous quantities” of soybeans and other US agricultural products as part of the agreement between the two countries.

During the banter on Air Force One after his trip to Washington, Trump hailed the decision as a “very nice gesture” from President Xi Jinping and noted that his Chinese counterpart had authorized the purchase a day earlier.

“We’ve agreed on a lot of things. There will be massive purchases of soybeans and other agricultural products in large quantities, starting immediately. Notice that President Xi allowed China to purchase very large quantities of soybeans and other things yesterday, which I appreciate. That was a very nice gesture,” Trump said.

According to CNN, in May China halted purchases of U.S. soybeans following Trump’s tariff announcement; This has left farmers across the country facing billions of dollars worth of unsold crops and led some to question the policies of a president many support.
