U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that facilitates layoffs of 8,000 of some of the best-paid government employees as part of a broader effort to overhaul the federal workforce. The order, issued by the White House and the Office of Personnel Management, strips job protections of a group of mostly high-level federal workers who earn up to almost $200,000 a year and are deemed to “influence” government policy.
