US officials meet with Russia as airstrikes continue
Separately, Romania mobilized warplanes on Tuesday morning to monitor two attacks in the east and southeast near the Ukrainian border in which it said drones had entered its airspace, according to the Defense Ministry.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his evening address to the nation before the night’s bombardment, said progress was being made in Kiev’s negotiations over peace proposals with its US and European partners.
“Now the list of steps necessary to end the war can be made,” Zelensky said. “Many correct elements were taken into account in this framework.” However, much remains to be done, he said, adding that the process should be conducted “with dignity”.
Since White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and his Russian counterpart Kirill Dmitriev drafted Trump’s 28-point peace plan last week, Ukrainian and European officials have rushed to prepare a counteroffer with much less advantageous terms for Russia.

The result was a wasted 19-point plan, according to people familiar with the matter, but Russian officials said the revised plan was a non-starter.
Following the night attacks, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for continued pressure on Russia and unity among transatlantic allies to end the war. In his statement on the X platform, he said that the latest attack was “a terrorist reaction to the peace proposals of the United States and President Trump.”
