Modi Holds Roadshow in Varanasi, Offers Prayers at Vishwanath Temple

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a tour of Varanasi on Wednesday morning, the second day of his two-day visit, and large crowds gathered along the route, party leaders said. The promotional tour started from Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) and passed through Lahartara, Kachahri, Ambedkar Chauraha, Chaukaghat, Teliyabag, Lahurabir and Maidagin and ended at Kashi Vishwanath Dham.

At the temple, the prime minister offered prayers and performed rituals accompanied by Vedic hymns. After completing the prayer, Modi was welcomed by local representatives and presented with a trishul, damru and a traditional stole. The Prime Minister accepted the gesture and welcomed the meeting.

As they exited the temple complex, devotees chanted “Har Har Mahadev” to which Modi responded by waving and folding his hands.

He also had a brief interaction with children present in Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.

BJP media in-charge Arvind Mishra said people in Varanasi were eager to get a glimpse of the chief minister, with a large number of party workers, bureaucrats and locals thronging the entire route.

Devotees and supporters were seen chanting slogans like “Har Har Mahadev” and “Jai Shri Ram” to welcome the prime minister, who welcomed them with waving and folded hands.

Mishra said many welcome points have been set up along the route, where party workers and locals welcome the chief minister with rose petals, drum beats and conch shells.

The trip, which is approximately 14 kilometers long, is described by party leaders as one of the biggest trips in the city.

Officials said dense crowds were seen on both sides of the roads along the route.

After visiting his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh later on Wednesday.
