US says it struck targets in Iran over ‘continued aggression’ against shipping | US news

US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed that the US struck multiple targets in Iran following attacks on Friday in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz a day earlier.
Centcom said Saturday’s attacks were “a direct response to Iran’s ongoing aggression against commercial shipping.” Centcom said in a statement that the US strikes targeted “Iran’s military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense facilities, drone storage facilities and minelayer capabilities.”
Following Friday’s retaliatory strikes, the U.S. military said it would continue to enforce the tenuous ceasefire with Iran even as disagreements emerge over the terms of Iran’s nuclear program, the issue of tolls in the Strait of Hormuz and other thorny questions, including Iran’s ballistic missile program.
“Following yesterday’s US strikes in response to Iran’s attack on M/V Ever Lovely, Iran was given the chance to comply with the ceasefire agreement, but chose not to do so when Iranian forces launched a one-way attack drone that hit M/T Kiku at 04:30 this morning. The Panama-flagged tanker was transiting near the Strait of Hormuz carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil,” Centcom said. “Commercial ship passage through the Strait of Hormuz continues. US forces are alert, lethal and ready.”
