Nalgonda: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday directed Suryapet district collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar to conduct an inquiry into chemical waste found in the waters of Krishna river at Mattapally in Suryapet district.

Chemical waste floating in the river near Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Mattapally emanated a foul odor, creating inconvenience to devotees and local residents.

After being informed of the issue, Uttam Kumar Reddy spoke to the district collector over phone and instructed him to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, officials suspect that the chemical waste may have entered the Krishna river through Musi river, which joins the Krishna at Wadapally.
