Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hits record-breaking 11-ball half-century for India A against Sri Lanka A
Youngster sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a remarkable 11-ball 50 for India A, breaking the record for the fastest half-century in the history of List A 50-over cricket.
The 15-year-old’s last notable achievement was an innings including 10 fours and eight sixes as India A hit 94 from 29 balls against Sri Lanka A to post a total of 377-9.
He faced only one dot ball in his fifty and hit five fours and five sixes from the other 10 balls to bring up the milestone.
The previous fastest in 50-over cricket was Thisara Perera’s 13-ball knock for Sri Lanka Army in 2021; The international fastest was 16 balls achieved by AB de Villiers of South Africa and Matthew Forde of the West Indies.
Sooryavanshi’s knock came on the day he was not included in India’s full squad for the upcoming one-day international series against England.
He has been named in the T20 squad for matches against both Ireland and England next month and could make his international debut after an incredible rise that has included becoming this year’s top scorer in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Virat Kohli could return to the ODI side if he passes the fitness test after his hamstring injury; fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is included but batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are missing out.
The first T20-Ireland match will take place on June 26, before the five-match series against England begins on July 1, followed by three ODIs on July 14.
