US cargo plane crashes, igniting huge fire on ground

A large cargo plane crashed while taking off from the airport in Louisville, Kentucky, sparking a massive fire on the ground.

The UPS plane took off for Honolulu and no injuries were reported, the Louisville Metro Police Department said in a social media post.

Photos on social media showed a large cloud of black smoke rising into the sky.

The Louisville Police Department said there was fire and debris on X, the former Twitter account, and asked people to stay away.

A shelter-in-place order was issued within five miles of the airport and was later expanded to include all areas north of the airport as far as the Ohio River.

In the video broadcast by the television channel, a large flame trail and smoke cloud could be seen coming out of the parking lot as fire trucks were trying to extinguish the fire.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft owned by UPS was produced in 1991.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in a post on X that he was aware of the reports.

“First responders are on scene and we will share more information as possible,” he said. “Please pray for the pilots, crew and everyone affected. We will share more soon.”
