Venezuelan Opposition leader Maria Machado’s BIG statement after Maduro’s capture: ‘Prepared to take power’

Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado made a big statement after President Nicolas Maduro was captured by US forces. “Venezuelans, THE HOUR OF FREEDOM has arrived!” he sent it. Machado has been in hiding since Maduro’s controversial re-election in July 2024. In a post on X, he said opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who the opposition said won the vote, “must immediately assume his constitutional duty” as president.

“As of today, Nicolás Maduro faces international justice for horrific crimes committed against Venezuelans and citizens of many other countries. Due to his refusal to accept a negotiated exit, the US government has fulfilled its promise to enforce the law,” he said in a statement.

“It is time for Popular Sovereignty and National Sovereignty to prevail in our country. We will restore order, release political prisoners, build an extraordinary country and bring back our children. We fought for years, we gave everything, and it was worth it. What is meant to be, is happening.”

He also said: “This is the hour of citizens, when we, who risked everything for democracy on July 28, those who elected Edmundo González Urrutia as the legitimate President of Venezuela, must immediately assume his constitutional mandate and be recognized as Commander-in-Chief of the National Armed Forces by all the officers and soldiers who compose it.”
