Veteran Actor Sobhan Babu’s Wife Shantha Kumari Passes Away In Chennai

Chennai: Shantha Kumari, wife of legendary Telugu actor Sobhan Babu, passed away at her home in Chennai on Thursday due to age-related health issues. He was 85 years old. According to family members, Shantha Kumari was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai four days ago after her health deteriorated. He died of a sudden heart attack during his treatment. The funeral will be held on Friday.

Shantha Kumari and Sobhan Babu got married on May 15, 1958, even before they entered the Telugu film industry. Known as a private person, he chose to stay away from media and film activities. While Sobhan Babu pursued a busy career in Telugu cinema, she devoted herself to managing home and family responsibilities. The couple had four children, a son named Karuna Seshu and three daughters named Mrudula, Prashanthi and Nivedhitha.

Sobhan Babu, born as Uppu Sobhana Chalapathi Rao, was one of the most loved heroes of Telugu cinema. In 1996, at the peak of his career, he bid farewell to films and chose to live a peaceful life in Chennai. He died of a heart attack in 2008.

In an earlier interview, their son Karuna Seshu had said that his father keeps his children away from the limelight. Karuna Seshu stays away from films and currently manages the family’s businesses and properties in Chennai. Sobhan Babu has multiple grandchildren, but the one who stands out most in the public eye is his grandson Dr. Surakshith Battina. She made headlines when she broke the Guinness World Record by performing minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to remove a 4.5kg uterus.
