Veteran broadcaster John Stapleton, 79, dies ‘peacefully’

The agent said that Senior publisher John Stapleton died at the age of 79 after the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

The presenter, who started his career at Oldham Chronicle, died in the hospital on Sunday morning.

He said his agent’s condition was complex by Pneumonia.

“His son Nick and his bride Lisa died in peace in the hospital,” Jackie Gill said.

Stapleton was paid a series of tributes, including Form Good Morning British presenter Charlotte Hawkins, describing him as a “bright publisher” and “a really cute man”.

Newsreader Mark Austin said his death was “incredibly sad”.

“A good man who can turn his hand to everything and the best server. With my best wishes to his family,” he said.

Stapleton announced his diagnosis in October 2024 in his television interviews.

“There is no point in being miserable. It will never change.

“I mean, the rest of my Parkinson’s life is now with me now. The best thing I can do is try it and get the advice of all experts.”

Between 1985-1993, Stapleton presented the observer of the BBC with his wife Lynn.
