Promising AFLW player Halle Cameron-Phillips, 23, killed in Busselton car crash

A promising AFLW player with a deep love for the sport has been remembered as a rare soul full of strength and determination, with tributes from his family.

Halle Cameron-Phillips, 23, died in a car accident two days after Christmas when the Toyota Kluger she was driving collided with the Holden Commodore.

The fatal incident occurred at 11.10pm on Saturday at Marine Terrace in Busselton, about 220 kilometers southwest of Perth.

A police spokesman said Ms Cameron-Phillips died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash and her 41-year-old passenger was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The 44-year-old Commodore driver was seriously injured in the crash and was flown to Perth.

Ms Cameron-Phillips’ aunt Natasha Phillips paid tribute to her niece on behalf of the family, saying the proud ALFW player was looking forward to joining Swan Districts Football Club in Perth when he was “tragically kidnapped”.

“He has worked tirelessly since leaving high school, always doing his best and never shying away from hard work. That’s just who he was – determined, driven and kind-hearted,” Ms Phillips said.

“On that tragic night, Halle was driving with her uncle on their way to the night their lives changed forever.

“In a moment that resulted in unthinkable tragedy, our precious Halle was taken from us, leaving a void in our family that can never be filled.”

Miss Phillips is a fundraiser Helping the family, who now face the “unimaginable loss of their second eldest daughter”, cover funeral expenses.

“His love, generosity and bright spirit touched so many lives, and his absence leaves a silence that can never truly be filled,” he said.

“The pain of losing Halle is indescribable. The silence she leaves behind is overwhelming. Her laughter, her strength, her kindness; they were all gone so quickly.”

Paying tribute to the former Geographe Bay Dodgers Netball Club member, the Busselton Netball Association said Ms Cameron-Phillips was an outstanding netball player who went on to play football for various South West teams.

“He will be remembered for his talent, determination and the positive impact he had on those around him,” a spokesperson said in a statement on Facebook.

An Eaton Football Club spokesman said they were deeply saddened to learn of Ms Cameron-Phillips’ death.

“Halle was our 2023 Women’s Runners-Up Fairest and Best and was a great person to have at the club,” the spokesperson said.

“We extend our thoughts and sincere condolences to Halle’s family and friends on your loss.”
