Vijay Calls On Political Leaders In The State
What happened? Newly appointed Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, ushering in a refreshingly healthy political culture in the state, summoned a wide range of senior political leaders, including former Chief Minister MK Stalin, to their homes, a move that was reciprocated with warm welcome and joy by his political rivals and their families.
After the completion of the swearing-in ceremony of all 234 elected MLAs of the new Assembly, which Vijay witnessed by watching all the proceedings in the Assembly before going from one house to another, the Chief Minister’s convoy started crossing the roads of Chennai.
Among the senior leaders that Vijay visited and sought their blessings were former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, MDMK founder Vaiko, Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman and Stalin, where he was welcomed by PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss.
The new Prime Minister’s ‘courtesy appeals’ to his political rivals actually started in the morning, when he was exchanging pleasantries with former chief ministers Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam in the Assembly.
Stalin said that he conveyed his wishes and some advice to Vijay, who called him as a matter of political courtesy. Shawls were exchanged during the meeting held at Stalin’s Alwarpet residence, where Udhayanidhi Stalin presented him with a book titled ‘Kalathin Niram Karuppu Sivappu – DMK 75’ on the history of DMK.
Vijay went to the Akkarai residence of Anbumani Ramadoss and also to the Vaiko’s house where he was welcomed by Durai Vaiko. Vaiko said that the Prime Minister, who met with opposition leaders, reminded him of a similar gesture by DMK founder CN Annadurai, adding that he advised him to follow the path of secularism. He said the gesture also sends a positive message about the need to promote healthy politics in Tamil Nadu.
As the news of Vijay’s meeting with Stalin went viral on social media, people expressed their admiration for the new culture brought to the State. Some television channels even announced discussions about the development.
