AMANDA PLATELL: Why Kate must stand firm and protect her family from Sussexes’ manipulation – and most of all, her children

When the King took the time last week to graciously extend an ‘olive branch’ to his young son during Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet’s first family visit to the UK in four years, one person came to mind: Kate.

Frankly, I’m more interested in the Princess of Wales than the psychodrama between father and son.

What must he think of Meghan, the con artist who has done so much to discredit her, ‘coming home’ and coming here to be embraced by the King at the heart of the Royal Family? The King even offered the Sussexes a royal residence to use during their stay.

We can guess that he wasn’t very happy. It would be human for him to feel a little betrayed by such a good news meeting. As a result, both Sussexes were very cruel to him.

While Harry and his viper wife tried to make filthy millions in sunny Montecito, Kate played her perfect role as the ever-loyal bride and future Queen who helped pad the massive fortune before being diagnosed with cancer. vacuum on royal duties caused by the Sussexes’ move to America.

I’m sure Kate hasn’t forgotten or forgiven the allegations in Omid Scobie’s 2023 royal biopic Finding Freedom (the Sussexes’ stalwart mouthpiece) that she was ‘cold’ and ‘unsupportive’ of Meghan during her brief tenure as royal.

Or Meghan’s claim in Harry & Meghan, the six-part 2022 docuseries for Netflix, that Kate, unlike the ‘lovely’ Meghan, is not a ‘hugger’. This terrible lie was debunked over and over again during Kate’s regular visits to hospitals, where she embraced cancer patients and survivors like herself.

Meghan claimed in the Netflix series that Kate was not a ‘hugger’, but this was proven time and time again during the princess’ regular visits to hospitals where she hugged patients.

The King's plans to reunite with the Sussexes must have come as a blow to Kate, who has returned to public life following her battle with cancer, especially at events such as Royal Ascot.

The King’s plans to reunite with the Sussexes must have come as a blow to Kate, who has returned to public life following her battle with cancer, especially at events such as Royal Ascot.

And how could he put aside accusations in Harry’s self-indulgent memoir, Spare, that Kate disdained ‘homeopathic panaceas’ such as thyme oil and turmeric that Meghan once offered her husband?

Or her claim to be constantly ‘nervous’ after realizing she ‘will now be compared to Meghan and forced to compete with her’?

See how the competition turned out?

Worldwide, Princess Catherine is the most beloved royal, often slightly surpassing her husband in popularity; Meghan, on the other hand, is considered one of the least popular; bottomed out only by the disgraced former Prince Andrew.

Those close to Harry and Meghan, of course, did their best to sabotage this popularity.

Perhaps the most inexcusable and most damagingly influential is the Dutch translation of Scobie’s book Endgame: Inside The Royal Family And The Monarchy’s Fight For Survival; Meghan ‘mistakenly’ named King Charles and Kate as royals who questioned what the skin color of Sussex’s first-born Archie would be, as she claimed in a 2021 Oprah interview.

All this history surely means that the news that her beloved father-in-law is planning a reunion with the Sussexes must have come as a blow to Kate, especially as she returns to public life after her battle with cancer: dazzling at Royal Ascot and resplendent in Trooping the Color in the King’s Birthday Parade with her beautiful children.

Some sources say Prince William ‘believes his father made the wrong decision in his effort to rebuild his relationship with Harry’, and I suspect most of the British public would agree.

Like millions of loyal monarchists, I support William on this issue. There is no room for Harry or Meghan in Britain anymore.

I hope William keeps his promise to keep his distance from his brother for everyone’s sake, especially Kate’s.

The thought of the Sussexes returning, being embraced, albeit privately, by the King (as they should be – no photo ops for their new Netflix show, please) – and Harry seizing every PR opportunity to promote the 2027 Invictus Games countdown is absolutely sickening.

After doing so much damage to the Royal Family’s beggarly faith, they are given a world stage to perform as the prodigal son and bride.

In fact, any sign of his love for Sussex risks losing King Charles’ support, credibility and legacy.

As a former spin doctor, I know optics are everything, so my warning message to the King is: come here with caution.

As a father who is also undergoing cancer treatment, we all understand why you want to see your son and grandchildren.

But for God’s sake, manage this visit wisely; especially for your devoted wife Camilla, who was attacked by Harry and must hate him as much as we do.

There should also be no public briefings about the reunion, otherwise you risk losing the love and respect of your eldest son William, who has stood by you fighting the good fight since the Sussexes split.

And William, you must stand firm and protect your family from the Sussexes’ manipulation, which some deride as the ’emotional blackmail’ of a frail old father already held hostage by his opportunistic son and greedy wife.

Above all, William, protect Kate.

My final advice to Princess Catherine: There is absolutely no pressure on you to meet Meghan, as some may claim in the coming weeks.

Nor for your children, whom you have raised so well, to meet their cousins Archie or Lilibet. Stand tall, stand proud, know that you are loved by millions, and for the sake of us all, please bid farewell to the Sussex invasion.
