Visakhapatnam steel plant blast: Pawan Kalyan, Lokesh meet injured and bereaved families

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh visited the injured workers and families of those killed in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant blast on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and assured them of the State government’s support.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan visited KIMS Hospital in Sheelanagar where some of the injured are under treatment. He talked to the workers, asked about their condition and the care provided, and met with their families. He also met with doctors and reviewed the treatment. District Collector Abhishikt Kishore briefed him about the accident, post-blast rescue and relief efforts and the support given by the district administration.
Mr. Lokesh, along with Andhra Pradesh MoS Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, State Home Minister V. Anitha, Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao, visited Seven Hills Hospital, where many injured were treated. He told workers that the government would be on their side and directed doctors to provide the best care.
He later visited King George Hospital (KGH) and met the families of some of the killed workers and expressed his condolences. Families demanded justice. Mr. Lokesh said that an investigation into the blast has begun and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
Later, the Minister visited King George Hospital (KGH) and met the family members of some of the workers who died there. Expressing his condolences over the loss of lives, Mr. Lokesh assured the bereaved families that the government would provide all necessary support for their welfare and rehabilitation.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao called for an investigation into the cause of the accident and a safety audit of all heavy industries in the area.

The accident took place at Steel Melting Workshop-1 (SMS-1) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant at around 4.15 pm on Monday, June 8, 2026. During casting at Caster-2, a ladle of hot crude steel at approximately 1,500°C exploded before the slide gate could be opened. The explosion created a fireball that engulfed Overhead Crane-2 and spilled molten metal onto the workshop floor. Eight workers died and six were seriously injured.
