Vizag Police Recover Stolen Property Worth Rs1.13 crore

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam City Police achieved a major milestone in crime prevention and detection by recovering stolen goods worth over Rs 1.13 billion in March 2026.

Police Commissioner Dr. Shankabrata Bagchi said a total of 77 property crimes were reported in the city in March. Of these, police detected 67 cases, arrested 83 criminals and seized more than 926 grams of gold ornaments, more than 3.5 kg of silver ornaments, Rs 4.7 lakh cash, 12 bicycles, an autorickshaw, a truck and 312 lost and stolen mobile phones. The rescued property was handed over to its owners during the rescue mela held on Thursday.

Police said a total of 9,899 stolen and lost mobile phones worth Rs 14.84 billion were seized in the city in the last two years.

To prevent future crimes, police adopted a multi-pronged strategy and significantly strengthened their surveillance capabilities by installing 656 CCTV cameras across the city in March.

The ministry also held 333 crime awareness meetings throughout the month to educate the public about criminal activities and preventive measures. Police decided to intensify special patrol teams and start drone-based patrols during the summer holidays to prevent possible property attacks.
