VMRDA Plans ₹12.5 Crore Underpass Near NAD Aligned With Metro Works

Visakhapatnam: In a move aimed at easing traffic congestion, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has proposed construction of an underpass near the Naval Arms Depot (NAD), synchronized with the upcoming metro rail project.

The proposal was discussed at a high-level meeting with engineers from Metro Rail Corporation, chaired by metropolitan commissioner N. Tej Bharath. The underpass is planned at Kakani Nagar and near NAD, along the line connecting NAD to the airport, at an estimated cost of ₹ 12.5 crore.

The design will be aligned with the metro rail layout to ensure seamless integration with the metro pillars and avoid conflicts during future construction, officials said. Tej Bharath instructed the engineers to be ready to start work immediately after the revenue department completes clearance of encroachments in the project area.

Chief engineer Vinay Kumar, chief engineer Madhusudana Rao, assistant executive engineer Viswanadham, Metro Rail Corporation officials, APUIAML representatives and other staff attended the meeting.
