Prashanth Neel Opens Up on NTR’s Intense Transformation Journey

NTR’s physical transformation has become a major topic of discussion over the last few months. Director Prashanth Neel recently addressed the controversy during an interview with Bharadwaj Rangan on YouTube.
During the conversation, Bharadwaj Rangan pointed out that NTR looks visibly thinner compared to his appearance in RRR and asked how the character’s look was designed. Neel explained that the transformation process began about a year and a half ago. The team had already conducted look tests and while preparing to start shooting, suggested that NTR lose some weight to suit his role as an assassin better.
However, according to Neel, the actor took this suggestion much further than expected. Quoting a Chinese saying, Neel said, “Be careful what you wish for” and said that NTR stuck to the idea intensely after being convinced about the character. He revealed that the actor stopped filming for about four months and focused entirely on transforming himself for the role.
Neel said that NTR eventually lost around 15 kilos, which started worrying those around him. He recalled repeatedly asking the actor to slow down because he was starting to look weak and pale. Despite this, NTR remained determined to achieve the same look designed for the character.
The producer also shared that NTR’s wife, mother, friends and even members of his own team were angry with him as they believed he was pushing the actor too aggressively towards the transformation.
Neel added that speculations on social media about NTR’s health also started at this stage due to his drastic weight loss. He clarified that he only suggested a moderate change but said he “went crazy” after being convinced about NTR’s character design.
Praising his dedication, Neel described NTR as one of the most determined and stubborn people he has ever worked with. According to him, once a player believes in something, it is extremely difficult to change his mind.
Neel also revealed that NTR wanted to fully realize the vision of an assassin trained in Afghanistan. The actor was reportedly aiming for sharper facial features, a leaner physique, and an overall look that reflected the tough nature of the character.
Neel admitted that the process was physically demanding. Watching someone lose 15-16 kilos in a matter of months was difficult for the team, especially in the first two months when the rapid transformation caused concern among those close to the player.
